More than a pane of glass.
Back glass is tempered, so it shatters like a door window, and it is usually bonded into the body like a windshield. The defroster grid is printed on it and the antenna often runs through it, which means the new glass has to be the right part with the right connectors, and both have to be reconnected and tested before the job is done.
Cleanup and cure.
A shattered back glass drops cubes across the rear deck, into the trunk and down the seat backs. The technician clears all of it, preps the frame, bonds the new glass with a urethane rated for the job, reconnects the defroster and antenna, and tells you the cure time before handing back the keys.
