When a crack can be repaired.
A crack that started from a chip, runs less than about six inches, and sits away from the edge of the glass and out of the driver's direct view is a repair. The technician drills a tiny stop at the end of the crack if it needs one, then fills the whole length with resin and cures it. The crack stops, and the glass keeps its strength.
When it cannot, and what happens then.
Cracks that start at the edge of the windshield, run longer than about six inches, or cross the driver's line of sight are past the point a repair will hold. We say so on the call rather than sell you a repair that fails, and quote a replacement instead, same-day in most cases, with the camera recalibrated in the same visit.
